About West Long Branch NJ

West Long Branch is a borough located in Monmouth County, New Jersey. As of the 2018 census, its estimated population is 7,909 people. Originally, the area that is now known as West Long Branch was called Mechanicsville, and after that, Branchburg. In 1908, through a referendum and by an act of the New Jersey Legislature, the name was officially changed to West Long Branch. Its name is taken from Long Branch, which in turn takes its name from the “long branch” of the Shrewsbury River. West Long Branch is bordered by the Monmouth County municipalities of Eatontown, Long Branch, Ocean, and Oceanport.
